Princess Poonam (Nanda) offends Prince Pratap Singh (Rajendra Nath) in one of her letters. As a payback, he hires an ambitious orphan named Rajoo (Shashi Kapoor) to impersonate him and insult the princess at the next meeting. Initially excited to become a royalty if only for a short while, Rajoo takes up the assignment but gets tongue-tied in front of the princess. After a series of comedic encounters, the princess falls in love with Rajoo.
