On June 6, 1944, a glider crashes, leaving Private First Class Bud Harvey as the only survivor. Emily convinces her grandparents to shelter him in their cellar. Concerned for his injuries, she seeks aid from the local priest, the Abbe, who helps him by sneaking him through the German lines to an American field hospital.
